Hello Guys,

I'm Mostafa Gamal from Egypt and I'm new to the community, and this is my first question, and I hope experts here help me to find the best career.

I'm planning to become MCT for Dynamics AX, I'm already certified MS Dynamics AX 2009 Installation & Configuration, and I've moved to Dynamics AX 2012, and I'm eager to learn everything, I like mastering, but at the same time I like to do anything in a proffessional way.

I'm hesitated between Axapta Functional and Development Career, and to help you answering me, here is a brief of my resume.

  • 2000-2010: Visual Basic 5 to Visual Basic .Net 2008 developer, build several business software and engineering software.
  • 2007: Authoring a Book in Developing Engineering Applications using Visual Basic 2008, and teach it  as a course in the college.
  • 2008: Graduated from Faculty of Engineering, production department, and worked for a short time as instructor in the college.
  • 2008: moved to Business Processes analysis and modeling and I have good experience in Quality Assurance, ISO 9001:2008.
  • 2010-2011: Implementation of SharePoint 2007.
  • 2011: Studing Dynamics AX 2009 Installation and Financial introduction.
  • 2012: moved to Dynamics AX 2012.

I want to become MCT for Dynamics AX 2012, but which track I should focus with my capabilities, functional or development, and if I select the functional track, I'm from Engineering backgroung what modules should I select to become a successful MCT, Does MCT concentrate in a specific modules or master most modules, and consider Egypt constraints if any.

Thank you.

    Hi Mostafa,

You have two options, but you have to decide at the end.

First you can become a Functional Consultant - Specialized in Production and you could be more specialized in an industry, since it is close to you studying background. You'll need some business experience which you will gain when you will get your hands on the implementations.

If you go on that track you have to have Financial knowledge (Financial is Core Module on the ERP) in order to know Production financial reflections, and integrations. In addition to (Supply Chain Management)Trade & Logistics background inventory management, Purchasing, Sales and their relations to production. These areas will takes years to build experience on it.

Second option to become a Technical consultant for Development & Customizations, which it is related to your experience in development. and this will give you some insights to Business.

If you go on that track you will get into Development life Cycle, and AX development  (Morphex and X++), reports designing SSRS, Role Center customizations, and SharePoint will give you an asset.

More above you have to explore MS Dynamics Sure Step the implementation methodology in order to cover ERP implementation life cycle.

It is better to have implementation experience then move to being an instructor, in order to have more business knowledge whether as Technical or Function which gives more credit to the instructor.

    Regards

    Mohamed Aamer, MCP, MCT
