FRX reporting help needed

ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi, we are migrating to GP from SBT and I'm now working on the reports we will need.

I can't figure out how to duplicate our 'General Ledger' report (called detail trial balance in GP) in FRX.

The main problem is getting the running total at the right (sample below).

Can FRX do running totals?  any samples if so?

Hopefully this would not require a custom report.

The new reporting tool for GP (Management Reporter) is almost exactly the same as FRx from your perspective.  It does not handle your running total issue any better.

The build-in reports are almost always like that, too small, too inflexible, no formatting, etc.  Crystal, while complex, is very flexible so should be able to produce what you need.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

     Thanks

Thanks,  Based on my limited research into frx, I didn't think so.  We're new to GP, so I don't care what we use, just that I cannot be exporting to excel, then updating a SS, then printing a report....too many steps and too long to do multiple times each month for multiple companies.

I have something close I did in the embeded report writer but am having a few problems with formatting (how do you eliminate the $ sign on every number?), and with the report in landscape mode and 7 point font, its impossible to read the report without a ruler in hand to line up the row.

I know Crystal Reports a little and was wondering if I should re-pickup Crystal or is the new reporting system in GP2010 the way to go?

     Thanks

    Ward

    Re: FRX reporting help needed

Well, I hate to say it but FRx cannot accomplish the report formula you are looking for.  Based on the example the level of the report you would be looking at is the Transaction level.  Therefore no Row formulas would help us.  And there is no built-in logic to create a running balance formula like you wish.  Your best bet if you need to use FRx for this is to Export to Excel and complete the calculations there.

Generally there are reports similar to this already present in the GL query tool or embeded report writer.

    Sorry.
