Hi,First post here, been tasked by my department with increasing the number sequence format limit in AX 2012.Currently the number sequence format is AB-CED####, however, this is needing to be changed to AB-CED#####I've tried to add a # to the alphanumeric segment, but I'm met with the error 'The format cannot contain the specified interval'. Googling this error doesn't bring any specific information. The largest number allocation is set to 999999.Any help would be appreciated, I'm familiar with AX but haven't delved this deep before. Many thanks Jonny
Hello Jonny,
Is this number sequence used for a voucher series or for identifying master data, such as customer, vendors, projects?
How did you try adding the # symbol?
Can you possibly share a screenprint?
Many thanks,
Ludwig
Hi,
I have configured this in env, check below
Focus on highest number, it should be fine
You are trying to set the format to AB-CED##### (5 numbers) and set largest number to 999999 (6 numbers). That's not possible. 999999 doesn't fit in #####. So either increase the nr of # in the format, or set the largest number in a way that fits the nr of #'s.
Thank you for the suggestion.
Upon trying what you've outlined above, I now get the error 'One or more references using the current number sequence are not sufficiently long to contain numbers from this number sequence.'
Thanks
You need to check the length of the extended data type which is used with this number sequence. If the length of the data type is only 10 characters, your number sequence can't produce longer numbers since they would not fit in the field.
You need to either increase the data type length, or define a number sequence format that is only 10 characters long.
Hi Ludwig,
This is for a voucher series.
I'm entering the # within the number sequence segment.
Thanks Nikolaos
Where do I check the length of the extended data type?
And subsequently, would the option to increase the data type length be in the same place
Thanks in advance
Jonny
You can check in a development system. And it can also be changed in a development system. So please talk with your dev team.
By the way, I'm moving this discussion to D365 Finance forum since it's not about AX.
edit: sorry, it's about AX2012 after all, the D365 screenshot in one of the replies fooled me. So I'm not moving anything :)
Thank you, I'll try get access to our Dev system as we do not have a Dev Team for AX.
Sorry for the confusion, thanks for the responses.
