CRM for Outlook Cache Files

Hi,

We are facing an issue with CRM for Outlook client synchronization cache files. These cache files ( .sdf files ) are getting deleted when a managed solution is deployed ( after some investigation ). These files are then rebuilt when the user logs into Outlook after the deployment. .  I’m not sure why these files are getting deleted – some users also need to reconfigure the MS CRM organization after a deployment (even though it was properly configured before the deployment).

I don't know the cause of this issue, but i am assuming it is causing because of Managed solution deployed. if anyone is having any knowledge on this or faced any issue related to this please let me know.

Currently we are using CRM2015 onpremise

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tharun,

As you noticed, the .sdf file store cached data that is used for following purposes:

    - Synchronize between Outlook (Exchange and CRM)

    - Store the CRM Metadata (Sitemap, Forms, Entities, etc.) to avoid round trips between Outlook and CRM to retrieve it.

This KB, under "List of databases in CRM", shows information about some of the .sdf files and their content: support.microsoft.com/.../error-occurs-when-you-run-the-synchronize-with-crm-function-in-the-mic

I think it's outdate and since then the structure might have changed a bit.

However, the .sdf file you are referring to is the MetadataCache one - I think it's name is something like MetadataCache-{CRMOrgGUID} or something similar.

When you Publish customizations or import solutions against your Organization, then this needs to be reflected also on the CRM for Outlook client, hence the metadata cache is rebuilt to contain the new changes. Therefore the behavior you are experiencing is by design.

Normally you shouldn't have to reconfigure the CRM for Outlook Client - this is an issue, as the metadata should be rebuilt without any problems. Maybe you should check the Outlook Traces when you try to open outlook after importing a solutions to see what causes the corruption support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-enable-tracing-for-the-microsoft-dynamics-crm-for-outlook-clien

I hope I was able to answer your question.

    Regards,

    Radu
