I can't assign myself a license that I just bought...

The message says: /Failed to assign license for Kenneth Bell: The assignment for this user requires a service plan that is not a part of this product./

    Thanks for this information. Really helpful.  It's important here to understand one concept:  Base license and Attach license.  A base license is normally the first license you purchase. IT will provide you some storage, access to the applications.  On your particular scenario, the base license was the Sales Professional license.  
     
    The second thing is, an Attach license. It means that for a user that has already some access, you need to provide a different set of funcionalities.  For example, Sales Managers that have a Sales license, could get an Attach license in order to use Customer Service to generate cases on behalf of their customers.    Another example:  Users with Field Service license getting a Sales license in order to make in-place associated sales. get access to product catalogs, generate opportunities/leads while working on a particular order.   
     
    And here lies your problem:  Licensing guide has a nice table:
    If you take a closer look, users with Sales Pro can NOT have Sales Enterprise.   You have on your subscription an Attach license but not a base one.   In order to fix this, you should purchase a Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise license and cancel the current Attach one.  The other possibility is if your user has some other license (for example, a Finance licens) in which case you could assign the Sales Attach.

  • I can't assign myself a license that I just bought...
    I signed up for Dynamic 365 Sales Professional Trial. Then after a few days I bought the Dynamics 365 Sales Professional subscription. Then the same day I realized I wanted the Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise edition. So I upgraded to the Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise Attached to a Base Offer. I don't know my way around so don't ask where I was at. I saw upgrade and did  so.
     
    I tried to assign the new license to my upgrade and it wouldn't assigned. Then it said my Dynamics 365 Sales Professional was disabled. But it won't it assign the Sales Enterprise edition to me. It says: Failed to assign license for Kenneth Bell: The assignment for this user requires a service plan that is not a part of this product.
     
    And I have no idea what this means or what service plan it is referring to. I have submitted a support ticket but I have heard nothing from them and it been over 48 hours. Should I just canccel the subscription and get a refund and start over. I'm lost and confused and the support is really not helpful.

    Can you please provide some more details? It would be important to know
    - Which license you've purchased
    - How are you assigning the licenses? Directly through Microsoft O365 portal? or through Azure and a security group?
    - It would be important also to check the other licenses the user has, to ensure there's no conflict.
