Writing off stock - removing from QTY in Service

Just checking that there are no tricks or easier ways, to solve my issue.

I have 9,791 items with QTY in service >0 that I want to "adjust" out of stock.

All these items have been financially accounted for, written off over the years, the IV account manually cleared by journal each month. However the items have been left in stock (why we do this is for another day).

My challenge is to remove the items from stock so that I can then delete all the inventory master records for items as they are all historical items that have been discontinued for over 10 years and I'm sick of seeing them in reports and enquiries.

Solution:

  1. At the moment I assume I have to write a macro to transfer the items from the service qty type to on hand
  2. Write a macro to adjust the stock out from on hand.

This is going to be a pain due to the sheer number of items, also because I'm going to have to write into the macro handling for selecting the serial numbers, where they exist and deal with selecting the qtys from the multi bins that they are residing in.

(TBH I'm more likely to write a eConnect application to do this as I don't fancy writing it as a macro.)

Is there a shortcut way I can do this without going through all these steps?

Tim.

    Update...

I ended up grabbing this by the horns this afternoon, written a SQL script to create my very large stock transfer and then stock adjustment.

The SQL takes care of the inventory bins and serial numbers for me and leaves me with  my transaction to post as an output.

I then use a journal to reverse out the effect on the accounts, testing on our test copy of production, this seems to work and leaves an appropriate audit trail if documented correctly.

I'll put the solution on my blog sometime in the next day or so.
