Management Reporter - Poor performance after using Webviewer

Posted on by 450

I installed Management Reporter RU4 a couple of months ago at a client site.  They wanted this as they were going to use the webviewer at 80 sites, previously they were receiving pdf versions.  The performance of Management Reporter was fine, this was until the first reports were sent out to the web users.  As soon as the sites started accessing the report Management Reporter virtually stopped working, the memory on the 8GB server was maxed out and it was taking minutes to drill into reports instead of this happening instantly.  As soon as all the sites were asked to stop using the webviewer performance returned to normal.  The memory being used on the server returned to around 2GB.  I then got one user to login from a site and this instantly maxed out the server memory again.

The server is used only for Management Reporter and all finance users that connect to MR have a client installed on their PC's.  Has anyone experienced these problems before?  If so was there a resolution.

    Hi Phil,

We have just released CU7 (blogs.msdn.com/.../management-reporter-cu7-released-for-download.aspx). Web Viewer reports should use both less memory and load faster with these changes and the improvements are more pronounced when using trees. If you have a chance to try it out, please let us know if it's enough for your customer or if we need to make further improvements in this area.

    Best regards,

    Andreas

    Hi Phil,

We're doing some poking around here and are investigating a couple of approaches to help address the multi-user memory consumption but I don't have a time frame for you. I would still recommend that you open a support case with CSS.

    Best regards,

    Andreas

    Hi Andreas,

Have you been able to find anything?

    Andreas,

I have doubled the memory on the server to 16GB which has made the program usable at acceptable speeds for the finance users however the 80 departments which are using the webviewer are still experiencing extremely slow access to the reports they are trying to view.

Ok, thanks for the update. I'll see what we can find.

It is 25,000kb around 70 rows and 15 columns, running across 6 companies, with 80 locations on the reporting tree with each location involving the 6 companies in 2 currencies.

It is a GP install, it is multi-currency so it is run on legacy, they are running the report at transaction level which is a requirement for this report..

Also, what is the size of the report that they are looking at (rows x columns)?

Is this a GP intfx based install or a DDM intfx based install? Are they running Transaction detail level reports, or just account/financial?
