Process to Open 2012 in GP- Current fiscal Year 2015

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We are on GP2010 (sp3).  Professional tools services is installed.

Current year = 2015

Last closed period = 2014

Period requiring adjustment = 2012.

We are not changing the fiscal reporting periods.  We require 1 entry to be made to 2012 and RE rolled forward.  What process should we use?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Donnette

We tested PSTL and since we're not changing the calender year the GL transactions did not move  from GL30000 to GL20000.  So..we contacted our partner.  They supplied us with a stored procedure to excute working backwards from newest year to oldest to re-open the periods, . This is working well.  Testing is almost complete.

    This is the process.

    USE [DB]

---make certain maintain history is checked on GL

    exec GP_GL_YECUndo 2014

    exec GP_GL_YECUndo 2013

    exec GP_GL_YECUndo 2012

    exec GP_GL_YECUndo 2011

---run reconcile oldest years to most recent (1 minute)

    ---open Financial GL periods

    ---make entries

---close years again oldest years to most recent

    ---close Financial GL periods

Thank you all.  We are refreshing to our test environment now to re-open calendar years with PSTL.  The process we will follow is:

    1. Open 2014

    2. Open 2013

    3. Open 2012

    4. Make entry to 2012. Close roll RE forward.

    5. Make entry to 2013. Close roll RE forward.

    6. Make entry to 2014. Close roll RE forward.

Please update me if we need to change the workflow in our defined process.  This will be tested with UAT prior to implementing in production.  Production changes will be made during a schedule outage.

    Thank you,

    Donnette

    Donnette,

You can use the Professional Service Tools (short PSTL) to re-open other fiscal years than the previous one.. The tool is available for free from your partner.

The tool offers a whole suite of functions that are usually only required in specific situations, but also has a few features that can make your day-to-day life easier (like the date check option).

In GP 2013 we have the functionality to Reverse Historical Year it can only open the recent closed year but not the previous years.  In your case, the ideal solution is to contact the Microsoft Partner.
