Work Centre and Machine Centre Explanation of fields

Having read the MS explanation and YT videos on work centre and machine centres, and fields required, they tend to be too high level, with general explanation. I want to be able to report on product costs and profitability across a work centre and various machines. Based on hours. Keeping it simple.

I have set up a Work Centre for the Factory -  Overhead Rate  £500 (rent).
5 Machine Centres - Overhead Rate £10/h each (electricity).  Direct Unit Cost Labour ££25
Routings use hour run time. Product has BOM with components.
Create Sales/Prod Order... through to finished. Ship and Invoice.

At Machine level Product Cost = overhead cost of machine, cost of labour, cost of components.
How does the Work Centre come into the product costs?

On your produced Item's Card, use the Cost Shares screen to see the breakdown of costs.  Item Card > Item Menu > Cost Shares

This will create a nested treeview of the production BOM and Routing.  Hopefully this gives you the information you are looking for.  This is also available in a print report format called the "Cost Shares" report.
