Planning Optimization: Master scheduling planned order number sequence format?

Hello,

I have started exploring the planning optimization in D365 F&O (version 10.0.16) on our Preprod environment. After we turn-on planning optimization and run master planning, one thing I noticed is that the number sequencing of the planned order (Master Planning -> Planned Orders) is different as compare to when I turn-off planning optimization (i.e. previous version: master planning). It seems that planning optimization is not picking up the number sequencing for planned orders, although it is already configured under (Setup -> Master planning parameters > Number Sequences -> "Master Scheduling planned order number"). FYI, it is correctly picking up this number sequence format when I turn-off planning optimization, and use the previous master planning.

Example below:
Planning Optimization: Turn-On: Planned Order Number generated is 0009000001 (Master Planning -> Planned Orders). Issue: Not picking up number sequencing format, although it is correctly configured in the setup.

Planning Optimization: Turn-Off (means its back to the previous Master planning): Planned Order number generated is MPO-126218. Correctly picking up number sequencing from the master planning parameters.

Please find below the two planned order numbers snapshot.

Question: Any idea from where I can find and set this number sequence format for planned order when we turn-on planning optimization?

Hopefully, Microsoft has not hardcoded this inside the system because planning optimization is new :).

Thanks,
Ahsan

Hi Ahsan, thanks for the detailed information for this issue.

May I know if your environment is dynamics 365 on cloud or on premise environment?

could you check if there any related feature need to be enabled?

Hi Jasmine, its on cloud. No, I couldn't find any feature to enable this.

    Hi Ahsan,

I haven't got the opportunity to look at the planning service as it runs on tier2 and higher tiers only.

It wouldn't surprise me if the planning service is using their own number sequence which might be indeed hard coded. The planning service is a microservice which is running outside Dynamics 365. It is designed that all calculations will be done in memory to get the highest possible performance. Taking the number sequence settings into account, it could potentially have a drawback  on the performance.

planning service has no parameters to be set and it might be hard coded,
