Yes, it works with Dynamcis CRM 2016 Update1 (Dynamics 365 on-premises).

The other way you can connect to CRM is by using SQL Server as a datasource and selecting your CRM database

For on-premise, we need Power BI for desktop and connect to CRM on-premise with OData Feed.

You could also try integrating power BI online with Dynamics CRM on-premises.

    Hi,

You have Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sales Manager or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Service Manager content packs in CRM online. There you can see some sample reports and dashboard.

    See: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-content-pack-microsoft-dynamics-crm/

Please download PowerBI for Desktop or make an online account and connect your crm with it.  You will get access to your CRM database and can make reports and dashboards in it.

    Hi Noushad,

You could just use Power BI online with Dynamics 365.

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn708055.aspx

Or you could download power BI desktop and use as shown below.

    Hi Noushad,

Follow the steps given below to Install Microsoft Dynamics CRM Report Authoring Extensions. Following these will help install plug-ins without any mistake.

    1. Go to /BIDSExtensions/ folder, double click on SetupBIDSExtensions.exe

    2. On the Welcome to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Report Authoring Extension Setup page, choose to Get Updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM to make sure that Setup has the most recent installation files. Now click Next

    3. Go to License Agreement -> review information > if you accept the agreement, select I accept this license agreement and then click I Accept

    4. If Setup detects that some required components are missing, then the Install Required Components page appears. To install these, click Install

    5. When the components get installed, the status column changes from Not Installed to Installed. Click Next to Continue

    6. Go to Select Microsoft Update Preference -> select Use Microsoft Update when I check for Updates. This help reduce the risk of vulnerabilities and security issues

    7. Now go to Select Installation Location -> accept default location or enter a different file installation location -> Next

    8. Go to System Checks -> Correct all errors before proceeding with the installation -> If you do not see any, then simply continue with the installation -> Next

    9. Review the Ready to Install Microsoft Dynamics CRM Report Authoring Extension Page thoroughly -> click Back for error correction -> Install

    10. Once setup is complete -> the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Report Authoring Extension Completed page appears -> click Finish

    Hope this helps.
