GP Web Services Dynamics Security Console Policy Error: Index was out of range

Posted on by 2,281

A client has Dynamics GP Web Services installed. They can access the web services URLs directly in the browser and everything looks good, but when they open the Dynamics Security Console and click on the Policy node, they get this error:

Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index.

We have checked everything in this KB article, "How to verify if Dynamics GP Web Services is Functioning Correctly"

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/950844

It says to "Verify that the policy information appears as expected", but it does not indicate what might cause such an error with the Policy node.

I have found a few old forum posts mentioning this error, but no resolution is present. I see one discussion of the error on DynDeveloper.com, but the only recommendation given is to uninstall and reinstall web services.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts before I recommend that to the customer.

GP Web Services Dynamics Security Console Policy Error: Index was out of range
I ran into the same issue after I installed the HotFix provided by Microsoft to update the GP Web Services to be compatible with GP 18.6 (KB4602611, Service Packs and Hotfixes for Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP | Microsoft Learn). The customer had reported that WF approval through e-mail wouldn't work anymore and despite restarting the service a few times, and running the repair as suggested, it wouldn't work.

I did ran the GP Web Services Configuration tool and the wizard, and what was apparently missed after the install of the HotFix, is to run the GP companies upgrade, which I thought I had done, but apparently no companies would show up when trying to list them or connect to them in the Security Console.

After I re-ran the update a 2nd time for the main company, the Security console would now allow me to select the company in the validation step where it says to 'add' a customer ..
And the Policy section in the Security console would display all the available options too.

Once I had that done, the link for approval of Workflows would work again.
Hope that helps anyone coming across the same problem (and for me the next time I do have to upgrade GP Web Services ;-) )

Normally one or both of these will resolve issues with the Consoles for Web Services:

    A. Dynamics GP Service Host service

        1. On the server where Web Services is installed, click on Administrative Tools > Services

        2. Find the 'Dynamics GP Service Host' service and make sure it is running/started.

        3. If it is not started, start it and make sure it is setup in the properties to start automatically.

If it is started, stop it and restart it and make sure it is running again and setup in properties to start automatically.

    B. If the information in Step A doesn't resolve the errors in the Dynamics Security Console, please try the following:

        1. On the server where Web Services is installed, go into Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

        2. Find and highlight 'Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP ####'

        3. Click the 'Change' button and then in the options window, choose to 'Repair' Web Services for Dynamics GP.

        4. Run the Repair and verify it goes through successfully. If it does, verify whether the issues in the Consoles are now resolved or not.

If neither of these resolve the issue, sometimes a reinstall of Web Services will do so.

    Thanks

RE: GP Web Services Dynamics Security Console Policy Error: Index was out of range

I hope this helps anyone coming to this post in the future.

I experienced the "Index was out of range" error on the Policy node with a client today. They previously had an individual advise that they run the GP Web Services Configuration Wizard to achieve a certain goal (this was on a working install of Web Services). As part of understanding what they had done, I ran the wizard on my dev machine as well…I also thought that doing so would be completely safe. It appears, however, that doing so changed something which made the GP company not appear to be part of GP Web Services. So, running the Configuration Wizard again now gave the option to Add a company to Web Services (this option was not there the first time). So, on my machine I completed this process in the wizard, started and stopped the GP Service Host Windows service, and now I can view the Policies in my Security Console. I asked the client to back up their GP databases and run the wizard again, adding back their companies. They did so, and the issue on the Policy node was resolved and their existing integration worked again.

RE: GP Web Services Dynamics Security Console Policy Error: Index was out of range

Update: The customer informed me that he is also unable to access the Web Services Exceptions console.

"Cannot access the exception service.  Verify that the configuration file exists and contains the correct path to the exception service."

So it's looking like an uninstall / reinstall might be required.
