Custom mail merge feature for email/document template

Currently working on a solution to build custom mail merge fields for email/document template. The users can configure mail merge fields which are of different sort like dynamic text, static text, formatted texts, query results, etc. The environment right now is a on-premise and the solution is working. In order for the current solution to work I am using ASPOSE email and ASPOSE word which give lot of control over the document generation and stuffs. But the problem arise now because the customer is planning to upgrade to CRM online. With the third party assembly in place this solution fall apart.

I just want some expert advice on this, did anyone have knowledge of any online service that we can consume and fit this requirement in terms of online solution. I thought of using aspose and develop an external webapi or service that will perform this merging operation. Then that service is consumed in the plugin. Will that work with online version?

Is there any other suitable solution that will help achieve this need?

Thanks very much for the response. I did explore on the out of box mail merge and did configure merge fields out of that. But there are still more custom merge fields the use like to configure. One good example is as follow.

1. In the template they might have bookmarks based on criteria need to show and hide the bookmark region.

2. Generate a report and merge that report along with the document in a bookmark region.

These are some examples, any idea with respect to those will be appreciated.

I am aware that this is an old thread, but you can check out DocBlender at https://www.docblender.com/. I have been using their free mail merge app from time to time, but I believe that they also have an API option.
