CRM 2013 Outlook Tracking Error - The Parent is not valid

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 1,577

CRM 2013  - On-Premise. Latest Outlook Client (SP1). Randomly all Users are getting an error "Parent is Invalid" when tracking an email via the CRM ribbon in Outlook. This may happen in 1 out of 10 emails - 9 may track fine, yet there is nothing obviously distinctive or unique re. the problematic emails.

I turned Tracing on - the log file contains "Entity id is null or empty, skip deleting the entity 'email'" plus " Creating Entity with an invalid parent.Entity: Email, ReferencingAttribute:emailsenderDetail:"

 <ErrorCode>-2147220987</ErrorCode>

Full log below...Any help gratefully received!

Mostly this issue happens when outlook sync fails while sync data from crm. When this error happens take a look at outlook sync status , mostly you will either outlook in process of syncing the data or sync is failed.

Thanks for that but there does not seem to be any synch issues. All is ok. This happens consistently with certain emails - where I get the error immediately when I click either on track or set regarding.

    Hello Seamus,

I see that we have Outlook client on SP 1 and do we have CRM 2013 server also on SP 1 ?

    Thanks,

    Churchill

    Hi Seamus,

When you click the Regarding, you get the error directly after click or after choose the entity?

and when you click the regarding, do you have this error as well?

"Creating Entity with an invalid parent exception. Entity : Email, ReferencingAttribute:regardingobjectid"

If this happens, you might check these links:

    http://nishantrana.me/2012/06/17/creating-entity-with-an-invalid-parent-exception-entity-email-referencingattributeregardingobjectid-in-crm-2011/

    and

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f68921a8-745b-46e4-85a8-b6a54b87eef6/i-keep-getting-an-invalid-parent-error-when-i-try-to-create-an-email-via-plugin?forum=crmdevelopment

    For this error:

"Creating Entity with an invalid parent. Entity: Email, ReferencingAttribute:emailsender"

It seems in Outlook, cannot get the emailsender, which emailsender is an attribute lookup field to System User.

So, it seems in the Localdatabase (if you are using 'go offline' ) or if you are using Online, that users cannot retrieve the system user record for his record. What if you use System Admin?

Please try to check, go to System User view, can he or she (the user) get the system user record that will be used as email sender?

Because email sender and regarding object are must to have to send emails.

    Hope it helps!

    THanks.!

Thanks Aileen, I dont think it is a permissions issue as I get the error also when logged in as Administrator. It happens randomly - some emails give the error and most are fine when tracking.

I really appreciate your time and help but I don't really understand much of the answer content.

Dont know if this actually applies to you but the: "Creating Entity with an invalid parent.Entity: Email, ReferencingAttribute:emailsender" error message means that something is trying to set an invalid emailsender value to an Email. Only certain entity records can be in the From field of an Email. Please check my answer here for more details: community.dynamics.com/.../137273.aspx

We are having the same issue.  I have tried multiple emails all trying to set the regarding to the same account record.  Some track just fine others error with "The parent is not valid."

Seems random as emails from the same person sometimes track fine and other times error out.

Also, if an email can not be tracked, if we forward it to ourselves, it does seem to track without issue.
