Price List Item Views - Workarounds

Hi All,

Apologize in advance if this isn't the correct forum for this topic.

Like many have already uncovered, it's not possible to customize the price list item views.  And, like many, this causes issues for us.

The main issues that I have with the price list item views are the absence of the following:

1) Product Descriptions

2) The inability to see a legacy part number (a field that exists on my product entity).

I'm curious as to what others are doing to combat the need for customized views with price list items?

One idea I've been contemplating is to create an additional lookup on my quote product/order product forms that looks up Products directly.  Here I can obviously customize the view so that will/should eliminate both 1 and 2 above.  On select, I can then ensure that product exists on the price list that was selected on the parent (quote/order) entity and if it is, set the lookup on the current "Existing Product" lookup.  In theory I think it works, but involves quite a bit of work to ensure that the solution is 'tight' and doesn't leave a situation where "Existing Product" isn't set, etc.

In any case - I can't imagine that I'm the only one that's had to overcome the inability to customize the "Price List Product" entity so figured I'd see what other people are doing to make their lives easier.

P.S. I did up vote the current issue logged in Microsoft Connect for this problem.

Cheers,

Sean.

Well, I am searching for a solution as well, as we import data externally into Price List Items/Pricelistelements, but we are not able to create a new view eventhou we can add Price List Items through XML toolbox :(

So if anyone has a way to make new views to non-customizable entities, I am eager to know as well.

    Hey Eucs,

In regards to my original post.  I ended up going with my original work around posted above.  It was a bit more work but I got what I needed done at the end of the day.

    Cheers.

Hey, thank you for the feedback!

If I understood your solution, the problem is that the standard "Quote product" subgrid is then pretty useless, no? Maybe you even replaced it?

What I've done for the moment: I put the product description in the "Product ID" field... Not very clean but I now see the description in the views...

I've been struggling with the same problems. The view currently has 3 fields (product name, product id and unit). Even if I could remove the 2nd and 3rd field and just have a list of product names I think I would be fairly satisfied - but alas no!! I have toyed with completely removing the 'Quote Product' subgrid and creating my own. But I fear its a lot of work! And I do like the auto populate of the no of units x price per unit.
