"Duplicate Key Exception" on WMS Mobile App during Inventory Movement (D365 SCM)

Posted on by 3

Hi everyone,

I am reaching out for expert advice on a critical issue we are facing in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management. We are encountering a database error that persists despite multiple attempts to resolve it through standard number sequence configurations.

The Issue:
When performing an Inventory Movement via the WMS Mobile App, the system successfully creates the Work ID. However, at the final "Confirm" (Put) step, the application throws the following SQL error:

"A duplicate key exception has occurred. Please try again in a few minutes."

Transaction Details:

  • Item: MPI730 - PIMIENTA NEGRA ENTERA
  • Quantity: 100 KG
  • Work IDs Affected: The error has occurred consistently across different Work IDs, such as TRAB-003793 and TRAB-006001.
  • Work Status: The work remains stuck in "In Process" or "Open" status assigned to a user, but the transaction cannot be completed.

Troubleshooting Already Performed:

  • Number Sequences: We significantly increased the "Next Value" for the Work ID number sequence (jumping from the 3000 range to 6000) to avoid collisions, but the error persists.
  • Session Cleanup: Mobile device sessions were cleared, and records in "User work in progress" were deleted.
  • Dimensions: The item is License Plate (LP) controlled. The error happens regardless of the source (RECEP-MP) or target (030293402) locations.

Technical Inquiry:

Since the Work ID is NOT the duplicate record (as the work is successfully created in the WHSWorkTable), we suspect a collision in underlying inventory tables.

  • Could this be an out-of-sync Inventory Lot ID  sequence?
  • Is it possible that the WHSLicensePlate table or the Inventory Journals automatically generated in the background have a stuck number in the "Status List"?

We would appreciate any insights on which specific table or sequence might be triggering this SQL exception during the final posting process.
