Hi All,
Just wanted to check to customize marketing app such as adding new entities or any new fields, do we need to buy powerapps license? What we understand from the licensing guide(Feb 2020), it seem Marketing App do not have seeded powerapps license.
Let said it required powerapps license, but we didn't purchase the license, can we still using classic interface to customize new entities, views or fields?Do this violate the license?
Thanks.

Teh
Hi Ghufran,
Thanks for you clarification.

In general right Teh.
To note, MKT app is not installed on top of Sales. MKT app is installed on CE org/instance and can operate standalone too. For sure, in most cases customers install both Sales and MKT apps on the same instance for better Sales & MKT alignment.
For extending Marketing capabilities and accessing those customizations in marketing context, there is no need for PowerApps license. Since MKT app is an org level purchase and not monetized on user licenses, one can use the 0$(free) MKT USL available for doing such customizations in the context of marketing app and processes
Hope this clarifies

Hi Ghufran,
Thanks for your update. I'm still confused with your statement. As we know Marketing App is installed on top of Sales App component, and any customization on the app required to be done in PowerApps such as additional new entities, new fields or changing form layout.
However, when you said the customer have the customization right and don't need PowerApps to customize, are you meant that no PowerApps license is required to customize? In other words, there is so called seeded PowerApps for Marketing app itself?
Based on Clofly diagram, there is no PowerApps component under Marketing app.
Thanks.

Teh
Hello Teh,
Received update from concerned licensing colleagues. They suggest Marketing can be customized just like an Enterprise app. Marketing customers have full customization rights and don't need PowerApps to customize or extend Marketing App.
Hope it answers the query.

Hello Teh,
Thanks for the query. We have routed the request to the responsible colleague to fully clarify the licensing rules around Power Apps and Dynamics 365 Marketing apps together.
I hope they will be updating this thread soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience

Ghufran
Hi Teh,
1. Firstly you can check whether "PowersApp for Dynamics 365" has been included in your subscription plan.
(In https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/users)
2. Dynamics 365 could be regarded as a data source, and PowerApps could be regared as a develop platform to connect Dynamics 365,
you may also noticed that even in classic interface, PowerApps logo displays at the top of the screen.
3. From those 2 articles:
https://www.preact.co.uk/blog/how-powerapps-plans-compare-to-dynamics-365
-> I conclude that powerapps is required if we want to add advanced customization on Dynamics 365
https://jukkaniiranen.com/2019/09/powerapps-licenses-and-a-dynamics-365-environment/
-> There is a noticeable paragraph:
"Dynamics 365 Enterprise application users can continue to run PowerApps applications within their Dynamics 365 environments, but running PowerApps applications in non-Dynamics 365 environments will require a PowerApps license."
And from D365 CE use right sheet in Feb 2020 license guide:
So in my opinion, powerapps license requirement is based on your Dynamics 365 subscription plan itself,
and you might need to purchase the license because powerapps use right is not included in Marketing application, even if in classic interface.
I recommend you to contact with sales license team for better assistance if you had doubt on license topic:

or PowerApps sales team
