Hi All,

When we create a product and later release it, The Product number provided will be the Item number and we can't change it(correct if I'm wrong).
But when we create a Released product directly we can give different value for both Product number and Item Number field. The question I've here is, what the difference between those two fields. While create Released product directly I observed headers IDENTIFICATION for Product number and COMPANY SPECIFIC IDENTIFICATION for Item Number, what are those headers means. Kindly try to elaborate. Attached SS FYI.

    Hi Community User,

You could think of product number as generic identifier across the system and it's data is shared across all legal entities. While the item number can contain extra specific details per company that would differ between two legal entities. And item number is normally the one used in transactions.

So In identification you fill data for the product number (shared) and in company specific identification you fill details of the product per company.

    Thanks,

    Hi Layan Jwei,
     @Layan Jwei
Thank you for your reply. I need one more clarity here, The Item Number could be same across multiple legal entity, right?. I came across two scenarios where in one scenario, both the fields are same and in other both fields are different.
    Eg.
    1st Scenario -
The legal entity 10 has product called - TestProduct002 and Released Product called - TestProduct002_i
The legal entity 10 has product called - TestProduct001 and Released Product called - TestProduct001 (same)
    2nd Scenario -
The legal entity DAT has Product called - TestProduct002 and Released Product called - TestProduct002  (same)
The legal entity DAT has product called - TestProduct001 and Released Product called - TestProduct001  (same)

Now what happens when a transaction takes place, suppose placing a purchase order for item - TestProduct001 which is present in both legal entity with same item number, will update the inventory in both legal entity or not?. If not, what's the differentiator between them.

    Regards,
    Manu

    Hi Manu,

If you are wondering that sometimes item number is different than product number or vice versa, then In general you can change the product number from here:

And you can change item number from here (options- record info - rename)

And since InventSum is per legal entity, then i would say the inventory will be affected per legal entity -- you can try to create a sales order and verify yourself

    Thanks,
    Layan Jweihan
