Import data in Extender from an Excel Spreasheet

Hello,

I'm trying to import values in list fields that I created with Extender.

- I created a new window in Item Maintenance with two list fields and I added the list possible values.

- I created a new import with three columns (Item number and my two new list fields)

- When I click on import, I receive a message saying that the import is complete but when I go in the Item maintenace window and in the Extender window, the values are not there.

I found a Microsoft post that said to replace the values in the spreadsheet with numbers (instead of strings) and I tried it but it did not work (support.microsoft.com/.../935386).

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Did you find a resolution for this?  I am having the same issue.

That would appear to be correct. Not sure why it would not be working. At this point I would recommend opening a support case so we could look at this closer.

RE: Import data in Extender from an Excel Spreasheet

    Hi Jonathan,

I just tested it with my client and it did not work even with the creation of the view. Here is what we did :

    1. Create the window. The two fields in which we want to import data are the two lists.

    2. Insert the data in the two fields.

    3. Create the view and select only the fields that we wanted to import.

    - We also tried to select them all but it didn't work.

    4. Create the import

    7776.2014_2D00_06_2D00_20-15_2D00_28_2D00_40.jpg

    5. Process the import

    - We received the information that the import was complete

    2577.2014_2D00_06_2D00_20-15_2D00_29_2D00_38.jpg

    5. And then when we went to verify the data in the Extender window, we don't see anything so it seems that the import didn't work after all.

Do you see anything missing or incorrect in this procedure??

    Thanks!

The only reason I created the view is because I needed to save the Extender information associated with this Extender Window. You can re-import at any time. Without seeing what exactly you are doing it is very difficult to try to help with this.

I just tried it and it worked! But I'm not sure what did solve the issue here..Is it mandatory to create a view?

Also, I made a mistake in a data in my .csv file and even if I re-import the file, the import is not adding the correct value (it's leaving the field blank). Is it possible to re-import after it's already done?

    Thanks in advance!

    Any update?

  • RE: Import data in Extender from an Excel Spreasheet

First I want to make sure that your Extender window is already created before you actual do the import.

Then I entered data for two customers.

Next I created a view so I could have my data I needed.

Next I need to get my data so I ran the view in SQL and saved it as a TXT. File:

    0537.import.png

Next I deleted my Extender window (after I exported it so I could reimport the window back in) this clears out all the data for Extender and this Window, close out of GP and back in.

I then Imported it back in and then created a new Extender Import:

The main thing is to make sure that your file is a CSV so it is a comma delimited file and you are selecting that when you create the actual Extender Import.

I'm not sure.  I tried a test in my system and got the same result as you.  It looks like it imports, but does not.  if you can determine the tables to populate, you could use Table Import to do the job.

I'm going into Extender and in my solution I click on New Import. From there, I'm using an Excel Spreadsheet..

What are you using to import the data?
