I need to increase the Item code field length from 20 Char to 30 Char. is this possible and how to do it. My environment is Dynamics AX 2012 R2.

is there any impact for retail items after change the item length?, and is there any recommendation from MS to change it?
Go to System administration/Setup/System/Modify data types, in this form you will be able to change itemId lenght by selecting the Item number data type
