Re-associate a serialized item with a new inventory ID

Posted on by 35

We have two inventory ID's for each item in inventory - one ID for the new item and the same ID with a "U" on the end for used items.  When new items are issued out to the field they go out under the new item ID and if they come back from the field they are recevied and inventoried under the used ID (the one with a "U" on the end).

We are now using lot/serial numbers for each specific item.  When the item is issued out we are recording in the system the serial number (and that number is associated with the new inventory ID). When we try to receive it back as a used item (the inventory ID with a "U" on the end), the system is not allowing us to do that.

Any tips on how we can accomplish this?  When we receive the used item back from the field, how can we use the same serial number and associate it with the used inventory ID?  Thanks...

A possibility - but might require on going manual intervention if we don't physically change the bar code (and I think they are using the imprinted manufacturers code) plus we need to deal with what then happened to the original serial number (i.e. where did it go).  Thanks, definitely an option; have a good day.

Add a "U" to the serial number.
