Unable to logon - new SL installation

Hi,

We have made a new installation of Dynamics SL 2011 on a SQL Server 2008 R2 and Win7 as client.

The SQL server is under a Small Business Server (2011) domain.

We are however unable to logon to the SQL databases from the client installation. All databases are visible in the Find Database/logon screen (98.000.01) but pressing "OK" only brings up the same screen again, and again, - until cancelled.

Please note that I do not get any error message here and it is the very first logon-instance that we not can pass, i.e. when making the logon to SERVER and SLSYSTEM.

If trying the above logon procedure under the local Admin account, this will strangely enough bring up System Message 5003 "Unable to open the specified server database".

Suspect this all relates to a security matter on the SQL server. Have therefor tried to grant permissions to my own user-id on the SQL Server 2008. However, without any change. There are no messages in the Event- or SQL log files that relates to this matter, failed logins or similar.

Thanks for your input.

Have you tried building the demo database to see if it does the same thing?

Have you tried rebuilding your empty db?

Are you using Windows accounts or SQL accounts? Have you tried doing the other?

    Thanks,

I created new Demo db's and they unfortunately respond in the same way, i.e. SLDemoSystem does neither give access.

No I have not tried to rebuild the db (systems db I then assume). And as I’m able to logon normally to SL, if doing it on the SQL server,  I really doubt there is anything wrong with the db’s.

We are using mixed mode, SQL server and Windows authentication. Tried to switch to Windows authentication only, but no change.

Oh... so SL is installed on the SQL box and everything runs fine from there?

If this is true, I'd want to know if your protocols in SQL are on (TCP/IP, not just named pipes) and if you have tried turning the Windows Firewall off to test it.

Correct, everything runs fine from the SQL Server.

Both Named Pipes and TCP/IP are enabled.

I have since earlier opened ports 1433 and 1434. Tried now to turn off the Windows firewall but was only able to disable the private and public profiles, and which changed nothing. (The domain network profile must be locked by a domain setting and I don’t want to mess up too much right now..?)

Sorry it's been a few days - So how are you doing on this?

Are you by chance running a named instance of SQL?

Still not solved and I have opened a support case with Microsoft.

In answer to your question; No, it is a default instance.

Hi SLK you have using a windows atentication mode, for login to dynamics?

You try... creating a the same domain\user on the SQL server users, with server role public.

    Thanks,

Some small progress has been made in this matter.

It showed out that the Solomon.ini file not was copied during the installation process (not to any client). By manually copying it to the client computer (into C:\Users\user.name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Dynamics SL) we were able to take one step forward.

There is however still some issue with the authentication.

We have also tried the workaround you Ricardo suggest (which btw earlier worked for us in a SQL2000/Solomon 6.5 environment). We have thus created SQL login for Domain\user.name. However, when trying to create the User ID's, Dynamics does not allow us to associate these ID's - neither with the Windows User Name, nor with the SQL login and returns message 10265 - "This user cannot be authenticated by Windows. Please enter a valid windows account name. (Ex. Sales\Bob)".
