Using CTRL-S to save changes when modifying a Multiple Lines of Text field (8.2.2)

We've noticed the following issue when using CTRL-S to update a text field in a record.

Pattern:

1- Focus on a Multiple Lines of Text field in the form.

2- Modify content of the field

3- Without moving out of the field, hit CTRL-S to save the record

4- The status bar displays "Unsaved changes". If we move out of the record, the changes to the text are not saved.

5- We have to hit CTRL-S again to save properly.

This does not happen with the "Save" or "Save and Close" buttons in the Command Bar.

We are using 8.2.2 On Premises.

I test this in a trial 9.0 instance and the issue is there, with the subtile difference that it still indicated "Unsaved changes" on the first CTRL-S but the modified text is saved.

Anyone else notice this? It's a pain point for our power users who favor keyboard shortcuts.

    Hi,

Multiline field is "special" case, since you can jump to new line and doing things you couldn't in a one line text field.

The new content in the field is handled when you "loose" focus from the field.

That's why when you press for the first time CTRL+S , it looses the focus from the field and it's starting from that point, the new value there are spotted as modified.

A second CTRL+S will do the job.

I wouldn't say it's a bug but something annoying for end users indeed ...

    Regards,

    Clément

Hi Clément, thanks for the answer.

    A second CTRL+S is counter-intuivitive.

CTRL+S while focus is on a text field should trigger the appropriate commit to the update to the field before performing the save operation.

In both 8.2.2 and 9.0, we shouldn't be left with an "Unsaved changes" message when hitting CTRL-S to save the record, no matter what type of field we're positioned on in the form.

I will look into submitting an incident with Microsoft.

    Hi LA,

This is a known issue, and like clement said not necessarily a bug, but functionality.

The basic workaround is to lose focus of the Multiline field. You need to tab or click somewhere else on the form before clicking CTRL+S.

This is not convenient, but for the time being the way to handle this issue.

Good luck with the ticket to Microsoft.

    Hope this helps.
