Bank Rec.- checkbook balance is off

Posted on by 6,775

We are unable to reconcile due to a difference.  This account is always a zero balance account and was at 0.00$ when it was last reconciled in Dec. last year.  Now, for some reason, the checkbook balance is off, thus giving a beginning balance.  What can be done to fix? Why is there suddenly a checkbook balance when it usually should be $0??

No transaction can be found to explain the difference. In the Checkbook Register, if you drill back to the earliest transaction, the balance already reflects this additional balance.  Could we just do an adjustment for today or would that affect historical balances?

    Hi R1012,

If the balance changed in January, have you looked at the check register to see what entries were made? All of the transactions for the month should be in that account. Check also to make sure nothing got back dated thereby changing the beginning checkbook balance.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
