Help! Solution 9.1 (online) to 9.0 (on prem)

Posted on by

Dear all,

So I see Dynamics 365 9.0 is finally available on premise! Happy days..
Now with enthusiasm we have been developing in 9.1 so we would have a solution ready as soon as the on prem version would be available, expecting it to be 9.1
I am reading that it might be an issue importing a 9.1 solution to 9.0, so that would be a real showstopper in this case. I am having a lot of trouble finding a lot of info about the new on prem release. The only thing I find is a link to the download page and nothing more really.

Can anyone help me out with more info? Links and info? We will also create a ticket with Microsoft hoping they can help us out.

Thanks

PS I have found this link and that could be the answer to the question I DONT want to hear :D But if it is so, so be it.

As mentioned earlier in this thread the only solution I know of at the moment is exporting from 9.1, change the customizations.xml, and import to 9.0.

But this is not supported at all. It might even break your organization.

Can anyone suggest a solution for this problem? We are in need to move all the customizations from Dynamics 365 online to a new Onprem instance. Is it possible without recreating the customizations?

@David Jennaway & @Andres Leon Hello, I can confirm that to create a new organization is the fastest way to move forward, after all. I have tried to export/import various combinations of solutions with xml editing and no result.

    Cheers!

@Jan Vanek hi, I hope you are fine. I think the best way is create a new organization, because, I tried export the customization.xml file, removed the tags and import it again and unfortunately it didn't work. The solution for me was create a new organization.

    Kind regards.

You could try exporting the solution from 9.0, and if the elements are included, then edit the customization.xml to remove them, and reimport.

Otherwise, the best you can do is probably export from 9.0 entities and forms that were unaffected, and compare the formxml within the customization.xml to see if you identify any differences.

Or, if you don't have much in your 9.0 organisation, create a new organisation, and import the 9.1 solution after you'd edited the customization.xml

@Andreas Leon: Hi, it worked for me, too. But what if the import has been already done, without removing this tag? Is there any chance to resolve the locked fields?

    regards,

    Jan

    Hi

I tried an export from 9.1 and it does not give option to export as 9.0

But that does not stop you from changing manually though, I know its not that much supported but its worth giving a try

Export the solution, unzip, and change the versions (solution.xml) to match your on-prem one and zip it again and try the import

Hi Benedikt, next time try to remove <AutoNumberFormat></AutoNumberFormat> before of import the solution. It worked for me.

I talked to the MS Support. Like you mentioned there is no supported way of deploying stuff from 9.1 to 9.0.

I was able to deploy entities and fields from 9.1 to 9.0. But then our fields where locked on all forms. Now we have recreated our entities, fields, relations from scratch.

  • RE: Help! Solution 9.1 (online) to 9.0 (on prem)

There is no real solution for this.. But if you know somebody who is handy with the code there are a few possibilities.
I was able to get the enitites, fields, option sets to 8.2 from 9.1 in an solution.

But not lookup fields or a business process flow.
