Help! Solution 9.1 (online) to 9.0 (on prem)

Dear all,

So I see Dynamics 365 9.0 is finally available on premise! Happy days..
Now with enthusiasm we have been developing in 9.1 so we would have a solution ready as soon as the on prem version would be available, expecting it to be 9.1
I am reading that it might be an issue importing a 9.1 solution to 9.0, so that would be a real showstopper in this case. I am having a lot of trouble finding a lot of info about the new on prem release. The only thing I find is a link to the download page and nothing more really.

Can anyone help me out with more info? Links and info? We will also create a ticket with Microsoft hoping they can help us out.

Thanks

PS I have found this link and that could be the answer to the question I DONT want to hear :D But if it is so, so be it.

With all other versions, as soon as you were on a point release (7.1, 8.1, 8.2 etc.) you were always given the option of selecting a target version of your solution package at the time you are exporting it. Thus, even on 8.1 you could export your solution as target 8.0 if you needed to import it into a 8.0 installation.

I currently do not have access to a 9.1 instance myself so I haven't checked if this is still the case with CRM 9 but I fully expect the option to still be present there.

    @Daniel Wikell

I certainly hope so, I am also familiar with the option you are referring to. Although when exporting. Version 9.x has does not ask for the target version anymore.

Have a look at this link: www.itaintboring.com/.../dynamics-365-v9-no-target-version-when-exporting-a-solution

What happens if you export a solution programmatically? Are you able to specify 9.0 as target version then? Since the solution definition started using the IntroducedVersion labels I'ts possible that the new components from 9.1 are correctly tagged up and that the target version exporting feature is still working but it's just missing from the gui at the moment.

    Hej,

have you found a solution for this problem?

We do still have the same issue.

This seems to still not be available as an option in online instances. We also tried the theoretical solution I was discussing above with the export solution request but CRM just replies with an error message about there not being support for exporting to different versions.

There is no real solution for this.. But if you know somebody who is handy with the code there are a few possibilities.
I was able to get the enitites, fields, option sets to 8.2 from 9.1 in an solution.

But not lookup fields or a business process flow.

I talked to the MS Support. Like you mentioned there is no supported way of deploying stuff from 9.1 to 9.0.

I was able to deploy entities and fields from 9.1 to 9.0. But then our fields where locked on all forms. Now we have recreated our entities, fields, relations from scratch.

Hi Benedikt, next time try to remove <AutoNumberFormat></AutoNumberFormat> before of import the solution. It worked for me.

    Hi

I tried an export from 9.1 and it does not give option to export as 9.0

But that does not stop you from changing manually though, I know its not that much supported but its worth giving a try

Export the solution, unzip, and change the versions (solution.xml) to match your on-prem one and zip it again and try the import

@Andreas Leon: Hi, it worked for me, too. But what if the import has been already done, without removing this tag? Is there any chance to resolve the locked fields?

    regards,

    Jan
