Dear all,

I need help how to access NAV database from third party, such as Power Builder, using ODBC. I read somewhere that I need C/ODBC installed. But how to get the C/ODBC ?

I use Ms Dynamics Nav 2009 R2

I have tried with this : C/ODBC for Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision 3.60, but still cannot connect to the database in the other party app...

    Hi Peter,

Are you using the SQL version of the system, if so the third party app could just connect to the SQL database directly?

(Remember not to allow them to modify data in NAV remotely or lots will break)

I don't yet the database connection for NAV app. Since I am still using the NAV with demo database. I don't  know whether later on we can access NAV database (live database) from SQL Server or not.

The implementation is still going on, the vendor are still modifying the app.

is it possible to access the demo database? from third party or from SQL Server?

as stated c/odbc was used in older versions of nav for the NATIVE database

in ver 4 it was called n/odbc.

If you are using SQL you would use regular ODBC to connect

    Hi Peter

If you are looking for a test system:

I would suggest installing the NAV software on a test SQL server, the NAV system has a demo install that does not need a licence and will allow your to try your connections

I am assuming that you will be connecting to NAV 2009

You could ask the NAV partner for a copy of the NAV software disk or download it from here

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../General.aspx

This will then give you a setup where you can test the connection to SQL
