Crm user primary email address

The following dynamics 365 states that the primary email must equal the exchange profile.  [View:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/crm-customer-center/the-outlook-email-address-should-be-the-same-as-the-dynamics-365-email-address.aspx]

My assumption is that that means the default email account for your outlook client profile = the Dynamics 365 primary email address.  Is that what this is saying?  I have a scenario were we are using  office 365 accounts with crm and exchange on premise, and the primary email is a mail@domain.com email but the office365 account is a mail@domain.net.  the exchange profile for outlook uses the AD and email address mail@domain.com.  why isn't this supported by PSS or is there a bug?

If you want to use your domain.net email accounts with dynamics then you will need to update the user mailboxes in Dynamics to match your onprem exchange. See technet.microsoft.com/.../mt622059.aspx

    Hi Ray,

Refer the community thread below. It describes the issue in detail.

Thank you to everyone that has responded. I will Mark answers accordingly. The question is not about matching the primary email address with the email address for the default account in the exchange profile used by Outlook. The question is as I'm being told by a vendor that you simply cannot change the primary email address. That it has to match the domain of the dynamics365 logon. And that as far as I'm concerned it's not the case. The vendor in turn has suggested that Microsoft has acknowledged a bug that causes Outlook synchronization to fail when the domain used for the primary CRM email is different than the domain used for the dynamics365 logon.

By the way we are not using server-side sync because we're running CRM in the cloud in exchange on premise and corporate policy does not allow currently for CRM Cloud to exchange on premise Federation. So we are using Outlook to sync task appointments and contacts and Outlook synchronization for in and out email

    Hi,

There may be other factors involved as to why your vendor is giving you that advise.

You can simply edit your email in the user record which will mean that you can use the outlook add-in to track and sync your records.

    Thanks,

    Scott
