Configuring Calendars and Job Scheduling for Overnight Production

When I start production at 3 PM and finish at 2 AM the next day, I have configured the calendar in Dynamics 365 F&O with two working time slots: 3 PM to 12 AM and 12 AM to 3 AM. However, during job scheduling, the system starts operations at 12 AM instead of 3 PM, as it considers 12 AM the beginning of the day rather than 3 PM.

To address this, I removed the working time slot from 12 AM to 3 AM and kept only 3 PM to 12 AM. While this avoids scheduling from midnight, it introduces another issue—overnight production processes are extended into the next afternoon because the calendar doesn’t account for midnight work.

How can I properly configure routes, calendars, and resources in Dynamics 365 F&O to handle scenarios where production scheduling spans two days, starting on one day and ending on the next?

This is such an informative and logical post! You've done a great job detailing the issue with the Dynamics 365 F&O calendar and job scheduling, as well as your approach to resolving it. It's clear that configuring the right working hours for overnight production can be tricky. To solve this, you might want to try setting up a 24-hour shift with multiple slots or using a custom calendar that spans over the two days. This could allow you to better account for overnight processes without interfering with the job scheduling system.

Just as precision in configuring production schedules is important, having a bold, well-defined look—like the Wolf Cut Haircut—can help you stand out with confidence in any environment

Set the calendar to operate 24 hours a day and configure the job scheduling to use a forward scheduling approach from the chosen start date, the system can allocate and schedule jobs over two separate days. This setting will make sure that jobs are planned efficiently, even if they go beyond a single day.
