GP Local Install - Restore Database

Posted on by

Dear All,

I have installed GP 2013 R2 in my local machine and I have SQL server 2008 R2 local again.  I have created 2 new companies in this GP.  Copied a back up file from the live SQL server and restored over one of the database which is created locally and ran the SQL script  to update the COMPANYID and INTERID in the test database.  I am getting the following error while logging in even though after pressing 2 ok I am in GP and able to go to all windows.  Not sure will this cause any issues can anyone guide me to fix this error.  I have already ran the utilities twice.

    Dear All,

Thats worked fine and thanks for all your input.  One last question when I logged into GP there are 2 little window open on minimise mode and I cant get that maximised and not sure why thats pops up.  Also I wanted to know does any of you have experience to install Dynamics NAV on the same machine which installed GP on it.

Babu, uninstalling SQL, or any app for that matter, usually leaves behind some files.  I think you can resolve this by following the path in the error message and delete any folders left behind after the de-install.

    Hi Richard & Ian,

    Hi Richard and Ian,

I have removed SQL and GP fully and re-installed SQL with the above collation.  After this I have installed GP and when I press the installation its ask for whether I wanted on install dexterity I press yes then it went to the installation menu where I selected Dynamics GP.  The Installation went fine and after that I ran GP Utilities and got the following error.

Thanks Richard and Ian for your valuable suggestions, let me do this and let you know my update.

Latin1_General_CI_AS is the default collation of SQL Server, but is not one of the two collations GP supports. The most common collation used is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

It is always advisable to confirm the collation of the source SQL Server before installing a new instance to ensure you have the same collation on the new server.

As Richard says, you will need to uninstall SQL Server from your local machine and reinstall after confirming the collation on the source system.

The collation sequence of SQL is different than of the collation sequence of your databases. Did you select something other than the default collation sequence when you installed SQL? GP will work with case sensitive (50) or case insensitive (52). Case insensitive is the default.

Check out this list for a complete listing of collation sequences. Your best bet right now is to detach your databases, uninstall SQL and reinstall SQL with the correct collation sequence.
