ReportReport

Hi ~

I have some problems about ssrs report:

1. How do I choose to deploy in PRO or DEV environments when I finish reporting in VS?

2.When I select RDP class or query, how do I know whether to connect to PRO or DEV environment?

my vesion is 2012 R3 CU9 && visual studio 2013 ~

    That's not something you choose (which is a good thing, because you can't make a mistake). When you work in a development environment, reports gets data from the DEV database and are deployed to the DEV report server. When you install a model with your reports to production and deploy reports, they're deployed to the production report server and get data from he production database.

    Not at all! Projects are not used for deployment and installing code directly into production without testing would be extremely risky.

    First move your changes to a test environment and let testers and key users validate the behavior. It'll also verify that all relevant objects were moved correctly - you don't want to find such problems in production!

    Then you have a few options, one of the common ones is having a copy of the production environment (pre-live), where you deploy the version of application tested in Test (as models), compile X++ and generate CIL there and then deploy the whole modelstore to production.

    Make sure you read the documentation (Deploying Customizations Across Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Environments) to understand what models and modelstores are, how object IDs are handled and as on.

    oh,, I just gave an example of how to import reports from the DEV environment to the PRO environment~

    But I still don't know if the PRO environment is not available when I create a new SSRS report in DEV, but if I call RDP from VS, how will VS know if I call from DEV or PRO?

    The only environment that should be used for development is DEV, you shouldn't ever develop against production, therefore no such setup should ever existed. In fact, developer accounts shouldn't have access to production to prevent changes done by mistake.

    You can set up Visual Studio to connect to another environment, but it should always be a development environment. See How to: Open Visual Studio with a Specific Configuration.
