KB Articles - SharePoint for document management and use CRM as reference point

Hi,

I have a business requirement to explore if we can use SharePoint as a front end tool for uploading documents for the knowledge base, and use CRM as a reference point.

I have shown the business that we can integrate CRM & SharePoint, and gave a demo about the documents uploaded in KB article in the CRM and manage the documents via SharePoint and take the benefit of OOB feature like version control, check in, check out, permissions, following up, etc. Now, the business wants to see if we can do document management for a respective article in SharePoint and all the documents for the respective articles get stored in CRM, so that we can use CRM as reference point. If this works, we want to switch off articles section in the CRM. I am experienced professional in SharePoint, and working for the first time on CRM. Could you please share your thoughts if there is a way to do so and if yes, how can I achieve this?

    Hi,

If you do start using SharePoint to contain your KB articles - there are some OOB features in CRM that you will loose such as inserting KB Articles into Emails and referencing the KB article used to resolve a case for analysis/reporting purposes.

You could use the KB article in CRM as a stub and just add a link the SharePoint article - but you would loose the search facility in CRM and would need to replace it with a custom search that points at SharePoint.

    hth,

    Scott
