what is the best practice for a database getting bigger on daily basis ?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We have recently installed CRM 2016 on premises, however the database is getting very big and we cannot find any reliable solution for this matter. it is really affecting our daily work and we are losing capacity resources day by day. Any help please? is it safe to run "Database Shrink"? what are the alternative solutions.

Thank you.

You can remove old systems jobs without any issue. That’s normal to delete data from asyn table to reduce db size. It’s also recommended to schedule bulk deletion jobs to delete complete system jobs after specific time.

    Hi,

Could you please check system jobs if anything running in the back end which increasing your DB size. Also run SQL profiler and check which query is executing in idle mode . In addition also check background workflow if any you have.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. i have already troubleshooted this error and it turned out that AsyncOperationBase contains a lot of records from several years ago and the system has reserved an approximate of 580 GB disk space. So, the first i have done is running a storage report script [as found within Microsoft' article] and they ran a code to remove all completed system jobs and shrank the database. to note that these steps were applied on Lab environment. However, i am hesitate to run the same steps on production to avoid any bigger problems. what do you suggest?
