Power Automate Flow not triggering on D365FO Business Alert Rule

Hi All,

I'm trying to create a flow that triggers on a D365 business alert.  The setup is pretty simple, it just sends an email once a Sales Order changes to Delivered status.

I created the Alert rule in D365, created the flow and used the alert I created in one of the flow conditions.  I can see the flow connection in the endpoints in the business events catalogue.

In the alert, configured it to send myself an email so I know it triggered.  I received the email, but the flow didnt trigger.

Was wondering if there's something I may have missed.

Thanks,
Tristan

    Hi,

I don't think you missed something obvious so can you give us more detailed information about your Power Automate Flow and how the business event is setup? This will help us troubleshoot.

    Hi Tristan,

As already asked by Anton, please provide more information how you configured the Power Automate flow. Did it really not trigger or did the flow end in an error or completed with bypassing some conditions? Do you have records in the Flow run history?

    Thanks for responding Anton!

The flow is straight-forward as shown below:

    The alert too:

Forgot to add, the flow didn't have any run history even if I know it should have triggered:

Here are emails from the alert notification so I know the alert ran successfully:

Please let me know if there is any setting you need screens of.

For now, I've only limited the alert to one entity for testing purposes, but eventually I would prefer this to be running against all entities.

    Thanks,
    Tristan

    Hi Tristan,

While typing my previous response, you already provided additional details. Can you still check the flow run history?
What are the other actions after the condition?

    Thanks for responding Andre'!

Unfortunately, the flow didn't even run:

But I got the emails from the D365 alert notification, so I know the alert triggered when I made changes to the Customer record:

In the condition, the plan was for the flow to send a message to a Teams channel.  However, since it didn't even run, I tried just adding a Compose in the YES condition just to verify if data comes in - unfortunately nothing since the flow didn't even run:

Some things I tried as well:

    - Re-creating the flow (not copying the 1st one)
    - Reconnecting my Connections users

    Hi Tristan,

Thanks for your question! It sounds like you've set up the Business Alert Rule and Power Automate Flow correctly, but the flow isn’t triggering even though the alert email is sent.

Here are a few things to check:

    1. Business Event vs. Alert Rule

      • Alert Rules and Business Events are separate mechanisms in D365FO.
      • Power Automate flows typically trigger from Business Events, not Alert Rules.
      • Receiving an alert email confirms the rule is working, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the Business Event was fired.
    2. Use Business Events Directly

      • Instead of relying on the alert, configure a Business Event for the Sales Order status change.
      • Ensure the event is enabled in the Business Events catalog and linked to your endpoint.
    3. Endpoint Configuration

      • Double-check that the endpoint is active and correctly mapped to your Power Automate flow.
      • Test the endpoint independently to confirm it can receive events.
    4. Flow Trigger Type

      • Make sure your flow uses the correct trigger: “When a business event occurs” from the Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations connector.
    5. Monitoring and Logs

      • Check the Business Events log in D365FO to see if the event was triggered and whether it was successfully sent to the endpoint.

Let me know if this helps, and please mark the response as helpful if it answered your question 😊

    Best regards!

, Please don't forget the Responsible AI policies. "Alert Rules and Business Events are separate mechanisms in D365FO.". This is partly correct. As part of the Business events framework, by default, the alert rules are included as trigger for business events. Have you ever used it yourself?

, Thanks for providing additional details. I don't have the option now to validate the same behavior. I will try to do that tonight when I'm back home.
You can also consider enabling a virtual table in Dataverse for the sales order headers. Then you can use the Dataverse connector to act on row changes. Some information can be found in my blog: Battle of the Connectors - Microsoft Dataverse vs Fin & Ops Apps (Dynamics 365) - Dynamicspedia

Hi Can you please Rebuild the business event catalog?

    Steps:

Go to Sys admin>Setup> Business Event> Business Event Catlog

To go Mange (Action Pane)> Rebuild Business Event Catalog

    Hi Andre',

Thanks so much for your time on this, it is much appreciated.

Unfortunately, we do not have Dataverse yet, but have plans to do so soon.  Yes, I am quite familiar with your blog as it helped me in some of questions I have with PA and D365. :)

    Regards,
    Tristan
