Document Attachment vs. Ole Notes

(0) ShareShare

We have been using Ole notes for years and have hundreds attached to our items.  Most of these notes contain specifications regarding the item.  Since we have started to use the new Document attachment..........we find that unlike Ole notes where you can go in to through the ole note to open the document and edit it, we now have to go to the original document, open it, edit it, and than reattach it to the item.  This is causing a lot of extra work for us.  My question is:  Does anyone have a work around for this which would allow us to edit the attached document and not have to go through all the other steps to save it?

What GP version you are using? I think this document attachment future is include from the GP 2013 R2 version.

You are correct I am in GP2013 R2 and started using the document attachment window because I can no longer add Ole notes to new items in inventory.  When we went to edit one of the attached documents, we found out that we had to go the the original document saved outside of GP and edit it and reattach it.  Turning out to be a real problem.  Thanks

    Hi Larry,

A colleague and I have been discussing the possibility of developing an add-on for Dynamics GP that would significantly enhance the functionality of GP DocAttach.

We have a list of features we think would improve DocAttach.  We didn't think about the need to edit an attached document, but I believe our proposed improvements might allow that.

I would be interested in chatting with you about your requirements and how you use DocAttach, if you don't mind.  I can be reached at steveendow@gmail.com, or via my web site at http://precipioservices.com/contact-us/

    Steve,

I've had a couple of discussions with clients about extending document attach so I would be interested in hearing more about your plans as it may save us development time creating a competing extension.
