What are features I'll be missing if I don't have subscription for Office 365

Hi,

According to the FAQ on D365 Financials, it seems like it is not necessary to have Office 365 Subscription. But it was not clear to me which specific functions I will be missing if I don't have Office 365 subscription.

https://madeira.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/across-faq/

What is the integration with Office 365 about?

Financials is fully integrated with Office 365 so that you can navigate freely between Office 365 apps and Financials using the app launcher. In Financials, you can open data in Excel, print reports using Word, and you can work with your Financials data in Outlook, for example. For more information, see Using Dynamics 365 for Financials as your Business Inbox in Outlook.

What exact features will I be missing? For example, would I be able to use the following features?

  • Edit in Excel (both export, and publish through Excel not part of O365 subscription)
  • Download report in Word
  • Download report in Excel
  • Use Print to Excel feature (such as Aged Accounts Payables)
  • Export G/L Budget to Excel, and Import G/L Budget from Excel

Thank you!

Kenji

    Hello,

All of the above features should work without an Office 365 subscription, assuming that you have a current version of Office installed on your computer.  I don't know how old a version of office you would be able to get away with.  I believe that the Excel add-in utilizes a newer feature for authentication\sign-in with AAD.

Off the top of my head the only big thing you wouldn't be able to use is the Email functionality... unless you're running your own SMTP server that you can connect it to. There may be other areas of integration I'm not thinking of.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for your feedback. I thought so as well, but I wasn't sure if lack of O365 subscription would cause any block to existing features, or not.

    This is very helpful.
