New Smartlists from SLBuilder only work for me, the builder

I have recently installed Smartlist Builder on several user's PC's and have created both new Smartlists & Excel Reports.  The Excel Reports that have been deployed work fine for users with access.

The Smartlists I have created (along with the "Additional Smartlists" downloaded from MS GP) are "visible to the user but no results are returned".  So far I have given the users increasing security rights to be able to access the lists.  I can log into their machines & run the reports as "sa" and my user id.  Even with "Admin" rights hey don't run under theirs even though they see the lists.

My VAR has not returned an answer to me yet so I am hopeful someone here can assist.  I have gone through the SLB manual & granted security to the SL Objects and the actual "new" smartlist via Security Tasks and SLB Security on Data Connections & SQL Tables.

Thanks,

The default behavior in GP is exactly what you are seeing - only SA and the user that created the SmartList will be able to see new SmartLists.  In GP 9.0 you can give users security to new SmartLists in Advanced Security.  In GP 10.0 and 2010 you would need to add the SmartLists to one of the users' tasks, or create a new task.  This blog post had more details: http://victoriayudin.com/2008/10/08/granting-access-to-a-new-smartlist-in-gp-10/.

     Victioria,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately I have done those steps already.  I read the blog post and I had already created a new task "_SMARTLIST_USER_NEW" that contains the new smartlists, I have given access to the Role ID of "Controller" and the User ID "mcbainj".  The users that I have given this to (that I have installed SLB on the PC) can all "see & select" the new Smartlists.  The results just don't process.

I tried to attach a screenshot jpg but I don't think it worked.  According to my GP10 IT support here at work, the user's in question do have sql access tot he GP company DB's and the Dynamics DB.  Not sure if that helps or not.

    Hi

If you are using any custom table or view then give the grant permission.

View: GRANT SELECT ON [viewname] TO DYNGRP

GRANT SELECT ON [viewname] TO PUBLIC

    table

GRANT SELECT, UPDATE, CONTROL, INSERT, DELETE ON table_nameTO DYNGRP

GRANT SELECT, UPDATE, CONTROL, INSERT, DELETE ON table_name TO PUBLIC

    Frank,

Besides the permissions on the SQL objects themselves, if your SmartList is based on SQL views or tables, you will need to add permissions to the View SmartLists with SQL Tables operation.  Here are the settings under Security Tasks:

    • Product: SmartList Builder
    • Type: SmartList Builder Permissions
    • Series: SmartList Builder Permissions or SmartList Builder (depends on the Service Pack)
    • Operations: View SmartLists with SQL Tables

This only has to be done once, no need to repeat if for every new SmartList.

I double checked that permission and it was already granted on my task I created and gave access to for users.

I am awaiting my IT person to test the sql scripts that Jeganeedhi suggested, although I am not using any custom views/tables that I am aware of.  Unless any "new" smartlists are considered custom.
