Billing for Services - What's the Best Module to Use?

What's the best module to use for billing miscellaneous services?  I played around with the SOP and Invoicing modules, but those appear to be geared toward sales of inventory items.  Creating a receivables transaction entry for services/repairs seems to be the closest solution; however, that does not allow for multiple description lines.

I want to be able to create an invoice for a customer and manually type in a line description, amount, and account number without worrying about inventory items.  Does GP have a simple solution like this?

    We need a way to do one-off billing.  Currently we create a bill in Excel and do a journal entry to record the receivable/revenue in GP.  Obviously that isn't an ideal business process.

    Is this a "one off" or do you have contracts with customers and need to bill for these services based on contract terms?  If you do have contracts and service fees, you may consider Field Services module as an option  If you are needing to invoice infrequently or one off, then Richard has the best solution.

    Just set up service items in inventory and then you do not need to be concerned with quantity and you still have access to descriptions per item. When you are on the item card change the Item Type to Service as opposed to Sales Inventory.
