MR 2012 Feature Pack

I've been troubleshooting a multi-currency issue for a client where the total for Retained Earnings in GP2010 does not match what is being reported Management Reporter w/SP2.  For some reason the two are significantly off.  We took the US$ value from GP and multiplied by the conversion rate for UK pounds and compared it to what MR is reporting in UK pounds and they are not even close.  I've check the calculations in MR and verified it is only reporting for one company (we use segment 2 as the company).

In my research, I keep seeing reference to MR Feature Pack 1 and that it addresses some MC translation issues.  However, I can't figure out how to tell if we have FP1.  As stated above, we're on SP2 of MR and I am wondering if that includes any feature packs or if those are separate installs.  Also, I saw reference to FP2, but it doesn't look like it's been released.  Can someone tell me how I find out if we a feature pack installed?  Or better yet, if someone has information on what could possibly be the cause of the variance in R/E between GP and MR?

Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi Jim,

Glad it worked ! don't forget to confirm in this thread that one or the other reply is the good answer, so the thread shows up as resolved in the forum.

    Have a great day.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback! I am glad to be part of such an active community.

As it turns out, we think that a former consultant imported or updated accounts directly through SQL and obviously did more harm than good.  After working with MS support, we decided to "refresh" the Currency Translation Type by changing it from Current to Average, saving, then changing back to Current.  This updated the proper tables and immediately corrected the issue.   So - that issue is resolved.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Jim,

Definitly the last reply from Susan will set you on the right path... we struggled with that too for a while, but now with the last RU2 of MR and the proper settings in GP, the numbers are looking good.

I noticed that you were mentionning the currencies with the Z-xxx... those are the ones that are preinstalled with GP for the DEMO company (Fabrikam Inc.) and since the multi-currency option is something that impacts all the companies, the information is stored in the DYNAMICS database, and the demo currencies are set by default to be visible to all companies I think. I may want to setup your own currencies and rate tables, to avoid any confusion (and potential problems with future updates).

    Re: MR 2012 Feature Pack

There is a manual out from Great Plains called:  consolidated Currency Translation with Management Reporter.  Basically it lists all the parts that need to be setup.  I know when I was first setting everything up I had to go back to the basics listed in this manual several times to make sure that I had everything setup.

Here is what the setup included:

Section 1: Dynamics GP and Currency Translation Setup

    A. Functional Currency (Tools>>Setup>>Financial>>Multicurrency)

    B. Create Exchange Tables and Enter Rates (Tools>>Setup>>System>>Exchange Table)

    C. Multicurrency Access (Tools>>Setup>>System>>Multicurrency Access)

    D. Multicurrency Setup (Tools>>Setup>>Financial>>Multicurrency)

    E. Rate Types (Tools>>Setup>>Financial>>Rate Type)

    F. Translation Type for Accounts (Cards>>Financial>>Account orCards>>Financial>>Account Currencies Mass Update)

Section 2: Management Reporter Consolidated Report

    A. Create Report

    B. Translation Types

And did you create a Historical Rate and Table that you assigned to your Retained Earnings?

    Re: MR 2012 Feature Pack

Tim - Thanks, that was very helpful.

Susan - Thanks, It looks like we are running MR 2.0 as the build is 2.0.1700.66. When I go into the account setup card, I see that all the available currencies are assigned (Z-AUD, Z-EURO, Z-HKD, Z-UK).  Do you think that the additional currencies are throwing something off?  Segment 2 defines the company and this company\account should be Z-UK.

Thank you both for your quick responses.

    Re: MR 2012 Feature Pack

Basically they just came out with the fix for multicurrency in Roll Out 2.

    FP1 was 2.0.1700.31

    MR2012 is 2.1.1026.37

    MR2012 with RU2 is 2.1.1029.30

And you need the roll up.

Basically you should be able to go back and use the date for your previous Financial Reports but if you are doing a dynamic report and you are looking at Dec/Jan/Feb/March you will find that for all 4 months it is using the March rates.  The new fix allows you to use a column and tell it what rates it is supposed to be using at that point in time.

Also, are you assigning the Currency Translation Type to each account.  Go to Cards>>Financial>>Account>>Currency and see what is assigned.

They just rolled out this fix, up until now you could do your monthly financials but as I said if you were looking at multiple months of years it would be off.
