Is there faster way to update shortcut Dimensions to Charts of Accounts?

Hey again! So, I am migrating one of our clients, from GP to BC on premise. I added in Dimensions/Segments and their values before attempting to migrate the accounts. At first, I tried using Configuration Package and tried to update all the Dimensions values (2 Gobal Dim, and 4 Shortcut Dim) at once, however it kept getting suck at the last 1% of the importing, even when I tried dividing up the COA and uploading half of them. Then I used Data Migration template to upload all the COA at once and it worked. After which I only updating all the Gobal DIM 1 and Gobal DIM 2 values using Config. Package, but I had to update them in section, which still took whole working day. Now I'm doing the same thing with the remaining 4 shortcut dim. I have roughly 8000 accounts, and I figured out updating 500 accounts at a time works best.   Is there better and faster way to do this?

Thanks,

Harsh

    Hi,

Configuration Packages are the best option to import or migrate the data in BC D365.

Hi, you can use Dimensions as Columns feature of configuration package.

    For example,

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Hey ZHU, I appreciate you getting back so quickly, however, I am currently doing that. I have 6 Dimensions, and roughly 8000 accounts. For some reason I can't update all the G/L accounts at once. I tried importing the package and run it over night, but it didn't work. If I update more than 1000 accounts, it imports the first 99% quickly but doesn't load in the last 1%. So, now I am only updating 500 accounts at a time, and whole process from importing to apply the package data takes at least 15 mins. each. So, I wanted to know: 1) If anyone knows why this is happening, and 2) If there is another better/faster way of doing this. Perhaps loading the accounts dims through backend? Please let know your thoughts, they would be much appreciated. Once thanks for the prompt reply!!

I think it will be faster and more efficient to write some code in AL to handle this case.

I think that you need to check table 352

    my dims

    assing to one gl acc

    pastedimage1666476630482v2.png

create a new pack on table 352

and get this in excel as an example of what i need to do to assign dims to gl accounts (or any other record)

Dimension settings for chart of accounts are not held in table 15 but rather in default dimensions

    Hey, guys update!

First of all, thanks everyone for your inputs, they were extremely insightful, and helped me better understand this whole process. I was able to get support from Microsoft, and they suggested I should check the "Skip Table Triggers" column. Apparently, it's a common problem and it's almost the Default Dims table that's causing these types of issue.
