Copying financial dimensions in Invoice journal

Hello all!

AP\Journals\Invoices\Invoice journals - lines

Is there a way to automatically copy financial dimensions which  were set for OffsetAccount (Offset account type = Ledger)  into  Account financial dimensions area?  Or vice versa, from Account dimensions into Offset account dimensions area.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Elenko,

There isn't any out of the box way to achieve this. This is more of a usability enhancement, that can easily be done thru simple customization. I believe you may not want this to happen all the time, as there are scenarios where dimension flows to default dimension form when performing invoice settlements.

I had done similar customization, the challenge I had was to identify when to transfer and when to let out of the box functionality kick in.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks

    Asif

On a separate note - if you are implementing accounting for a commercial company, your question demonstrate, in my mind, one of the many problems with putting financial dimensions on balance sheet accounts.

Can you consider the actual business requirements you have? do you really have to have many dimensions on your payable and receivable accounts?

Elenko - the method I described to you would also work if you don't have defaults on the vendor record.

step 1: create the vendor line, enter invoice ID total invoice amount

step 2: press "Financial Dimension" button to set up dimensions for the vendor side

step 3: press Functions > Voucher Breakdown to enter the distribution line(s) - the dimensions you entered on the vendor will be copied to the lines

    Hi Elenko,

All I tried to say is that the FD that you enter for you account is inheritied (copied) into the offset account.

That is not really a copy functionality and only works in the way that the account financial dimensions are 'copied' into the offset account section.

What might help in this context are the ledger account alias, default accounts that you can specify at the vendor Level and/or default or fixed financial dimensions that you can specifiy at the ledger account level.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thank you for your answers!

    Ludwig,

it does not really matter  from which side dimensions are copyed  - from Account to Offset account or vice versa.  The problem is that I can not find any way to copy it. As a result users have to put  the same dimensions twice. Could you please tell me in more details in which way dimensions can be copied from Account to Offset account.

    Zvika,

I'm not trying to transfer default dimensions from Vendor. In this very case there are no default dimensions in Vendor. Moreover, dimension values  in different invoice journals can be different even for the same vendor.

Are you trying to have the default dimensions coming from the Vendor record to post to both the vendor side and the ledger side?

As long as you have a 1 line journal (account and offset account) that should work.

If you have a multi-line distribution, an easy way to trigger the "copy dimension" from vendor side to the ledger side is to use the "breakdown" functionality (Functions > Voucher Breakdown), which gives an easy way to create distribution while keeping the same dimension values.

    Hi Elenko,

Financial dimensions are copied from the account to the offset account.

If you want to have it the other way around then you can simply switch your posting and change the account and offset account.

    Best regards

    Ludwig
