Error when attempting to insert dynamic field in email template

(4) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 14
When creating a new email template, the functionality of the template has recently changed.

Replicated error for both Safari and Chrome, latest versions as of yesterday.

Access to the Email Template edit was accessed from the Configuration icon>>Templates>>Email Templates>>New>>Start with a blank template.

Issues

1) Behaviour of Subject input field now has a multi-line scroll box
2) Any attempt to insert dynamic text in the Body input field of the email results in an error at the top of the window:

Unable to insert dynamic text. Select where to insert or update your dynamic text in the template's subject or body.

Results

1) It seems that the system does not recognize that the cursor is active in the Body input field.
2) Rich text and carriage returns are accepted as input into the Subject field which won't be passed in emails.

Attempted Workaround: edit existing template

1) When editing an existing template, the Subject input field presents a rich text input field with formatting options similar to the Body input field.
2) Same error when inserting dynamic text is attempted.

Other attempts at fixes

1) Flushing caches
2) Private browser window
3) Checked for content blocking
4) Tested on Chrome and Safari, latest versions

No change in behaviours.

I'm having the same issue. Any suggestions?

Is it related to some setting in the Power Platform for editing of enhanced email templates?

I fixed this by adding the Email engagement app user role to my user profile.

    Response from support:

“I just got the message from product group that they will release the bug fixed on this weekend.

Therefore, please help to check the issue on next week by hard refreshing the application or you can logout and login the application again.”

Has anyone been able to get this to work yet? I just logged out and back in and still can't insert dynamic text, I was told it was fixed?

I am still getting this error as of today. Does anyone know which specific solution/application has the alleged bug fix?  What version do we need to be on (of what solution/app)?

I'm editing e-mail templates in the new Power Platform Environment Settings app, from a dataverse environment with custom entities.

My user has a security role that includes the prvCreateOrgEmailTemplates privilege. I think that's the same as "adding the Email engagement app user role to my user profile"?

I also set Enable the New Email Template Editor settings to Yes in my environment, and did a hard browser cache reset.

    Still getting the same error.

When I manually enter a dynamic field using the logical name, it is converted to a dynamic field with light blue background, with the logical names replaced by display names (see below).  However - the reference to a related entity in the first line doesn't seem to be working (haven't tested yet).

Edit: If I add a new e-mail template to my solution, the Insert dynamic text button appears to be working when editing that template. Previously I was creating the template from Personalization Settings, which opens the email template form in the Power Platform Environment Settings model drive app. Opening it directly from make.powerapps.com from my solution opens it not in a specific application (and suggests I should select an app at the top of the screen).   So - maybe that was the issue.  Seems like it should work either way?

    thanks for any help!

I experienced this issue and here's the solution that worked for me.
    1. Go to Power Platform Admin (https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/) >> Environment >> Settings >> Templates >> Email Templates
    2. Create a new email template >> Select the desired entity >> Enter the templates name and description.
    3. You can now enter dynamic inserts for subject line and the body text as before.
    4. Save your template.
