Returning a BOM to Individual Inventory Items

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

A customer has returned a finished goods Bill of Material item.  We credited the customer by returning it to inventory but now we want to break it apart and return the individual components of the BOM to inventory so that they can be picked and used to build a different finished goods BOM.  Is there an automated way to do this or will we have to do an inventory adjustment to add them back to inventory?

GP does not have a component to explode a manufactured item.  You will need to make an inventory transaction where you reduce the quantity on hand of the assembled item and increase the quantity on hand of the components by the proper amounts.  You also need to ensure your component costs are correct and, of course, balance the cost of the assembled item.

There are a couple of 3rd party products that will do this but for one or two......use the Inventory Adjustment Transactionb
