    Hello Marielle,

if you have a bom on SO you only to explode to bom before you start picking process (create picking list)

if you sell this products always on item Basis, i would recommend to make a development for autoexplosion at creating of so line

You need to create, cost and activate a BOM to define the relationship. The useful explode BoM function can then be used on both a sales order line and a purchase order form to  purchase and or sell kits.

To sell the kit, when you just have the components, put it on the Sales order and explode it. This will effectively backflush the components without need for production order to  pull from the inventory, component by component, and it will still show up on the Sales order as the End Item Number kit invoice, with a listing each component.

This post is a good start point: blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../what-we-talk-about-when-we-talk-about-kits-in-dynamics-ax

    and also see kurthatlevik.wordpress.com/.../ax-2012kitting-revisited

An alternative to the BOM explosion is offered by the new retail kit functionality in AX2012 R3. technet.microsoft.com/.../dn497848.aspx

Retail kits are better understood as a collection of items put into one box and sold as one sku e.g.: “Canon EOS 100 + 40mm lens kit, boxed”. The retail kits are either stored at the warehouse or more typically are assembled explicitly when needed.

The assembling procedure is managed with a kit assembly order. It silently posts a BOM inventory journal.

You can also configure a kit  to order (Retail/Common/Kits/Product kits) and then click Configure  to enter the components. The retail product kit functionality does not use BOMs. The retail ‘flavor’ enforces strict rules for the sales order entry, its modification and fulfillment
