Hello,
I purchased a small retail business running what apprears to be RMS 1.2. I'm not a fan of running 10 year old software, so I'd like to upgrade to to something more current. The current owner is not tech savvy so he is absolutely no help. I found discs and documentation for RMS 1.2 and Back Office Server 2000 so I assume that is what is currently running. The current system has 10 years of customer and product information which I don't want to lose or have to rebuild.
Questions:
1. What would be the most logical current product for a single-location retail store running one register? POS 2009 appears to be the most likely candidate.
2. Is there an upgrade path form RMS 1.2 directly to a product such as POS 2009?
3. What other issues should I be aware of/find out before making a decision?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same question (0)There is no really good direct "upgrade" to POS 2009; there was supposed to be but was fraught with problems. And there are a lot of things that are in RMS but not in POS2009, so better to stay with RMS anyway.
There is a direct upgrade process from yours to the latest version(s) of RMS (I put in plural because it is a multi-step process to get that far). And you only have to renew your Microsoft annual plan to get the new version.
You would need to have some documentation on the original purchase, and some for the sale of the business, to get it transferred over to you from the previous owner though.
I do this about once every week or two, and have done for over 5 years, so can help you through the process - it can be a bit convoluted.
