Sales Pipeline, Quick create form, set account automatic through the entry of contact

Hello all. Sales Pipeline, Quick create: Is there a way to automaticly set the account-field to the linked account (Company) of the entry in the contact-field? In the quick create form we allway choose the contact first. While the contacts llways have a linked account, it would be very nice, if the account-field gets the account of the contact. Thank you. best regards from Germany Ingo

Sorry i have some trouble understanding your question.

    - do you want to have a field in your contact form?

(or) do you want a field in your accounts form?

    - do you want to use the parent account function to link a contact to an account?

(or) do you want to use connections to link a contact to an account?

    Let me know please.

    Hello Luc,

thank you for the quick reaction.

    I will try:

I have a contact. The Name of the contact is "Max Mustermann" and he is working for a Company called "ABC GmbH". "Max Mustermann" is stored in Contacts. "ABC GmbH" is stored in accounts. In the Contacts the account from "Max Mustermann" is set to "ABC GmbH". Now I want to create a sales opprtunity (i think it is called Sales Pipeline in eng. CRM) with a quick create form. In the quick create form there are (among others) the two fields [contact] and [account]. The contact field is located before the account field. When I choose the customer "Max Mustermann" in the contact field, I want, that the account field gets the entry "ABC GmbH" automaticly because that is the Company "Max Mustermann" is working for (set in the contact). Sorry for the bad english.

    best regards

    Ingo

Ah ok I get it. Hmmm.

Well  I cannot help you automate this but I can tell you what we do.

We allways link an Opportunity to an Account, so field customer = Account.

But in your case, you told me that you wanted the Customer to be the Contact.

In that case, what I would do - use Connections.

Make the customer the Contact (Max Mustermann)

Then in the Contact From go to Connections.

Connected (From) = Contact (Max Mustermann)

    Role (From) = Employee

Connected (To) = Account (ABC GmbH)

    Role (To) = Employer

That way - when you go to the opportunity and you see the customer = Max Mustermann > you can always check for which account it is because he is connected to ABC GmbH as an employer.

In this case, you would only have to make the connection once and every next opportunity under Max Mustermann is linked to ABC GmbH.

If this isn't enough and you really want to automate this --> look up Scott Durow Microsoft MVP on the Forum. He always helps me a lot and would certainly know is this is possible.

Another guy who might know it is Jukka Niiranen.

    Good luck!

    Dear Luc.

Thank you for your answer. I will try it.

What we did so far was.

In the Form we set the field-settings of the field "Account" as followed:

    Field Settings; Tab "View"

("Nach verknüpften Datensätzen filtern") = Filter by linked records (? not shure if my Translation is coorrect)

    Set Checkmark

Show only records that applies to the following:

1st Field = Contact (Sales Pipeline)

2nd Field = Contact (Accountname (Accounts))

When we now select a contact in the sales Pipeline,

the account picklist shows the linked Company of the choosen contact.

It is just sad, that we have to open the account picklist to choose the only entry but we can live with it.

I will try your way anyway.

    thanky again.

    HI Ingo,

Have you tried creating a real-time workflow to do this for you?

If you created a real-time workflow that fired on Record Creation this would accomplish your requirements I think.  The steps are as below:

On the Opportunity record, add the dynamic value as below

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you Ryan.

I created a workflow as you described.

    This works fine.

One Little imperfection: The Company Name first Shows up after saveing the record.

is it possible to get the Company Name after choosing the contact (or OnChangeField or OnLostFocus)?

    Thanks again.

    Ingo
