Hi all, I'm after some advice regarding what is best for our business as we are struggling to understand how Dynamics is best setup for our business type.
Our business is a waste management company so we setup a contract with a customer, then order a service from a supplier who will deliver a bin and then empty it on a frequency (for example every week). We therefore have a sales team to make the original sale with the customer, and then a customer service team for the after sales to liaise between the customer and the supplier, for example the customer has had a missed collection or they need an additional service.
So we have setup Dynamics for Sales (obviously for the sales team) and then Dynamics for Customer Service, but we are now looking at setting up a billing system. Business Central is causing us issues because we have setup all our product variations with all our different suppliers in Sales (sales need to choose a supplier based on the product and the postcode of the customer). We are unsure whether we should setup our products as inventory, non-inventory, or service in BC, as we don't physically have an item as we are ordering it from a supplier (effectively drop shipping) but we need to be able to bill the customer every month for the service, rather than just raising a one-off invoice.
We don't have an inventory stock to manage so we don't want to be adding an inventory into Business Central which has "cost" us money and gives us a negative value in the accounts, when we haven't actually spent that amount as we will only get invoiced later down the line from the supplier on a monthly basis.
We maybe need a different system to set up the billing which we would then integrate into Dynamics?
Sorry if this is a basic question but I am new to Dynamics and struggling to get my head around it! Thanks in advance
Hi KD101,
did you consider evaluating also D365 Project Service Automation (PSA) features?
I cannot talk so much about the BC/ERP side but if you find PSA interesting based on your requirements, looking further to Project Operations (currently under Preview) might appear useful as well.
Hope that other community members more familiar with this set of requirements provide their insights as well.
