Getting an error while upgrading Dynamics GP company database to 2016R2

Hello,

We are currently working on upgrading GP 2013 R2(12.0.1745) to GP 2016 R2(16.00.0552).  Instead of upgrading GP from 2013R2 to 2016R2 , we are planning to do clean installation, steps are as below,

Step1: Build new server and do clean straight installation of GP 2016R2.(Get rid of old servers once our users are good with GP 2016R2.)

Step2: Open GP Utilities and upgrade existing company database to 2016R2.

I am getting below issue to proceed with Step 2

Error: Product 0 does not support upgrading from version 12.0.1745.

Based on my research on above error i found out that first we have to upgrade GP 2013R2 to latest build then upgrade to 2016R2. If this statement is correct then I have 2 questions  , please find below. If this statement is wrong then please help me to how to resolve above issue.

Question 1: Should i first upgrade GP 2013R2 to latest build and upgrade all companies to latest 2013R2 build then proceed with above 2 steps ?

Question 2: If above statement is yes then can i upgrade as below

                   GP 2013R2 12.0.1745 --> GP 2013R2 12.00.2198

                   GP 2013R2 12.00.2198 --> GP 2016R2 16.00.0552

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

    Lucas,

    Thanks for your response, i have also checked above links though but i am noticing differences in table definition of SY00500 which is not included in any of above links. I am not sure why this table is not included, is there a chance table definition of SY00500 might be changed in later versions of 2013R2 ? Any idea ?

    Currently we are in 2013R2 12.00.1745 and upgrading to 2016R2 16.00.0675.

    Lucas,

    Thanks for your response.

    Actually i found that there were some customization's made to triggers and it has been missed so once i updated triggers the issue is gone.

    Preetham,

    You're probably going to want to capture a DEXSQL.LOG or SQL Profiler trace of this issue to determine what sort of error is happening on the SQL side.  That will point you towards a resolution.

    Hi Preetham,

    DavidMO had once written a SQL view to monitor the progress of a GP upgrade, as it can take several hours when owning multiple companies, and the last thing you want to do is kill the client.. :-)

    RE: Getting an error while upgrading Dynamics GP company database to 2016R2

    I am able upgrade all my companies successfully using below mentioned path, Thanks Beat and everyone for your help and support. This forum is always quick in responding to questions.

    GP 2013R2 12.0.1745 --> GP 2013R2 12.00.2230 --> GP 2016R2 16.00.0675

    While i am performing db upgrade for our major company i have noticed that dbutilities was greyed out for 2-3 hours but it looked like it's still working behind the scenes and i did not do anything and finally upgrade has been finished successfully in 6.5 hours. My question is what are all the ways i can find in the backend that upgrade is still going on with no issues ? I know that i can check db_status in DB_Upgrade table but i am trying to get more details such as in what order it goes on and what it means on each status ? If anyone have more details please let me know. Thanks in advance.

    RE: Getting an error while upgrading Dynamics GP company database to 2016R2

    Preetham,

    You'll want to look at the Dynamics GP 2016 Upgrade Hot Topic on CustomerSource to find the valid upgrade paths:

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/northamerica/GP/support/hot-topics/HOT_TOPIC_MDGP2016Upgrade

    So, if you're on 12.00.2230 you'll be able to upgrade to 16.00.0675 or later.  There is no upgrade path from that version of Dynamics GP 2013 to 16.00.0552 unless you upgrade to Dynamics GP 2015 first.  Applying the January Hotfix (16.00.0675) for GP 2016 prior to running your upgrade is going to be a much fast solution though.
