Automate Historical Stock Status Report?

Posted on by 65

I need to automate the production and output of the HSS inventory report, but the schedule options in GP are inadequate for my purpose.

I need to have it run without human intervention, programatically changing the output destination/filename, and suppying 'as of date' parameters automatically.

There's got to be a way to do this from outside GP (I am a software engineer, have the full suite of tools, etc.) - any ideas?

Thanks in advance -

Thanks, I'll look, but I'm still interested in an answer to the original question.

Based on that, I still think HITB is your best bet.  Look at the Summary by Item.  You may have to create a copy of and modify the existing report to include the item's unit of measure, but the HITB report and underlying tables will be your best bet for accurate inventory counts and cost.

Whoops- we are on GP2010, most-recent patch (SP3 I believe).  FIFO perpetual inventory.

We will be on 2013 sometime in the not-to-distant future, hopefully, if that matters.

I don't believe the HITB report will give me what I want - I need inventory counts, by location, as of an arbitrary date, ideally, with unit of measure and extended $. I'll look at the HITB again, but I don't think it's quite what I want.

We have installed the SSRS reports, and you are correct, no HSS report there that I can see.

Bear in mind, I have fairly expert c# / SQL skills, if it matters.

Is there any documentation *anywhere* on what the report is actually doing?

What version of GP are you using?  Is it possible the Historical Inventory Trial Balance (HITB) report is an effective replacement for the Historical Stock Status Report?  If so, you should look at deploying the GP-based SSRS reports for each company database.  You can then look to SSRS subscription functionality to setup subscriptions that will generate the report via SSRS at scheduled times and based on pre-defined parameters.

I don't think the Historical Stock Status report is available in SSRS, which is why I suggest looking at the HITB possibility.
