I'm getting a request to break out our 'Industries' in two fields: Industry and Sub-Industry.  When a use chooses one of the industry they want me to display the 'Sub-Industry for that particular industry.  Examples below:

Field Description/Text
Industry Agriculture & Mining
Sub-Industry   Farming and Ranching
Sub-Industry   Fishing, Hunting and Trapping
Sub-Industry   Forestry and Logging
Sub-Industry   Mining and Quarrying
Sub-Industry   Agriculture & Mining Other
Industry Business Services
Sub-Industry   Accounting and Tax Preparation
Sub-Industry   Advertising, Marketing and PR
Sub-Industry   Facilities Management
Sub-Industry   HR and Recruiting Services
Sub-Industry   Data and Records Management
Sub-Industry   Legal Services
Sub-Industry   Management Consulting
Sub-Industry   Sales Services
Sub-Industry   Security Services
Sub-Industry   Payroll Services
Sub-Industry   Business Services Other

What would be the best way of handling this request/update?

I think this can be done using dependent lookups as well.

    Hi Dan,

If I understand, you have two lookup fields, and the value from the first one determines what's available in the second (like a country drop down and state drop down, where you can only select a state for that country).

If that's the case, you want to write javascript on your form to add a custom filter to the lookup (documentation: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334266.aspx)

When the form loads, if Industry is set then apply the filter to sub-industry. On change of the industry, apply the filter for the newly selected industry.

Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden
