Runtime error 6 overflow when opening item properties.

Hi All,

I installed an RMS system a couple of months ago and all was well until a few days ago when the client started getting a runtime error 6 overflow message when trying to open an items properties. This occurs whether the properties button is clicked or whether it is drilled own through a report.

I have created a couple of new items and they open up fine. I have also backed up the database and restored it to my office PC same issue. I have then gone through the database and deleted all database tables that do not belong to the native RMS. ie removed all add-on data. same issue.

Then upgraded to CU5 same problem.

Has anyone come across this at all apart from knowing what a generic runtime error 6 overflow error means.

Cheers  Rick

I just checked the database and there are entries in SubDesc1 and 2. They are used for part numbers and brands. There are just over 35000 entries in total and are you are spot on there are exactly 32767 unique entries.

As you deduced Error 6 is caused by a field exceeding 32767 where that many entries is not expected.

What type of information is Subdescription1 being used for?

Are there 32,767+ different values on file or is the problem RMS cannot scan that many entries if "Show previously defined" is enabled?

    Hi All,

Solved this problem this morning after deleting a few stock items the problem went away.

Did this at the clients premises and solved the problem. Client called back 20 mins later the issue had returned. I asked them to step me through the steps exactly to find out at what stage the issue arose. They got the runtime error as soon as they added the first sub description against the new item. The fix was to go into the configuration and into item options and turn off "Show previously defined Item SubDescriptions". Looks like it was trying to load a defined list for nearly 30,000 stock lines. This also made the properties of the item much quicker to display. Hope this helps somebody in the future.

    Cheers Rick
